Abstract

To study the interactions that develop in an online community is a powerfulstrategy to monitor, analyze and improve the effectiveness of a training session.The aim of this paper is to introduce the reader to some useful tools and methods for the analysis of interactions in a Knowledge Building Community (KBC).Specifically, we describe the main tools in the Analytic Toolkit of KnowledgeForum (Semantic Analysis Tool, Social Network Analysis Tool, VocabularyGrowth Tool, Writing Measures Tool and Contribution Tool). They are particularlyuseful for the researcher and teacher in order to investigate the processesof knowledge construction by the individual and the group and offer suggestionsfor self-assessment of the student.
