Abstract

Computer Mediated Communication has deeply reshaped the way human relationships develop. In recent years, the Net has contributed greatly to a re-thinking of the way in which the requirements and traditional work practices of advanced societies are perceived. This paper inquires into the role played by new media in the process of job-based socializing. The corpus of data si composed of ten of the most important national and international web-sites.

The analysis concerns the structure and internal organization of the web-sites. In addition, we analysed some notes posted in a web-forum about flexibility in the work-place. To analyse the data we used diatextual analysis aimed at tracking the interpretative repertoires of user perceptions of flexibility and the rhetorical-argumentation strategies displayed by users to underline their participation and involvement.

We found the phenomenon to be extremely complex and noted that differences depend on the features of the communities of practices and on the roles played by users (whether worker or enterprise).
